2003 – New specialisms!

We began delivering ESOL in 2003 as part of our focus on learning, which grew from the regeneration work we’d been familiar with.

We still deliver ESOL today, under our Inclusive Integration delivery area. Now, a programme that is popular with local women, this wasn’t always the case. In fact, ESOL delivery was a catalyst for our work with children and families.

Park ward residents at Hanson Lane Enterprise Centre

Delivered at Hanson Lane Enterprise Centre, the course saw low female attendance due to the challenges with childcare that many families face. To ensure women had the same opportunities as men, in learning English, the Trust also held a creche where children would be cared for while their mothers could learn a new skill.

Children and families support was introduced, via Sure Start in West Central Halifax. Initially, we delivered our work at Hanson Lane Enterprise Centre, alongside all our other projects.
