Meet PC Steph Robinson, one of Cancer Champions.
We’re proud to highlight PC Steph Robinson, one of 14 officers who completed Cancer Champion training as part of our work with West Yorkshire Police in Calderdale.
Through the ‘Cuppa with a Copper’ initiative at Calderdale College, Steph has been using her role to open up important conversations with students. During Cervical Cancer Awareness Week, we engaged young people around when to expect screening, why it matters, and the signs and symptoms to look out for — sharing practical resources to support awareness.
This forms part of a wider co-designed programme aligned to national awareness campaigns. We’ve also trained six student Cancer Champions who are now developing their own ideas to promote awareness across the college.
The response from West Yorkshire Police has been incredible, with officers embracing the opportunity to turn awareness into action.
“Being a Cancer Champion is important to me, cancer does not discriminate and it can affect anybody at any stage of their lives. It is important that people are educated on the symptoms and early signs of cancer to get an early diagnosis and positive prognosis. The Cancer Champion project and ‘Cuppa with a Copper’ initiative at the college allows young people to discuss cancer, dispel myths and have conversations that would not naturally occur otherwise“
Proud to be working in partnership to promote health and well-being across our communities.
