2002 – A regeneration charity!

When Halifax Opportunities Trust first started operating, there was a big focus on continuing the regeneration work started by West Central Halifax Partnership.

This meant that a lot of the work we were involved with in the early years of the Trust was business advice and guidance, employment and IT support.

Training was a strong element of the delivery model at that time, providing people with skills for work and life. The internet and IT in general were relatively new concepts back in 2002, so ensuring people understood the opportunities that skills in these areas could unlock was a big driver for the Trust.

Of course, with just 14 members of staff across the entire Trust, these early days were focused on gaining foothold in the local community and ensuring the charity was able to gain and sustain funding to deliver projects, such as the IT suite. All of HOT’s delivery took place from Hanson Lane Enterprise Centre, a site that was inherited from West Central Halifax Partnership; its flagship project.
