Creating positive

change in our

community

What is community organising?

When communities work together, the possibilities for positive change are endless.

Community Organising is the work of bringing people together to take action around their common concerns and overcome social injustice.

Community Organisers reach out and listen, connect and motivate people to build their collective power. When people are organised, communities get heard and power begins to shift creating real change for good.

As part of our Community and Wellbeing teams, we have a community organiser.

Ilyas Najib

Community Organiser

Ilyas Najib is proud to be Park Ward born and bred, with a lifelong connection to the community he calls home. His personal and professional journey has been deeply rooted in the area, giving him a unique understanding of the challenges and opportunities that local people face. Over the years, Ilyas has worked directly within Park Ward, building strong relationships and gaining first-hand insight into the issues that matter most to residents. He is often found in the heart of the community, engaging with individuals, supporting grassroots initiatives, and working tirelessly to create positive change. His commitment, experience, and local knowledge mean he is not only a familiar face in Park Ward but also a trusted advocate for the people who live there.

Get involved in

community action

Community organisers galvanise the community to empower them to have a say on what goes on in their local communities. We do this by working in partnership with various local stakeholders such as West Yorkshire Police, Calderdale Council, local councillors, Halifax central Initiative and many other local stakeholders.

Attend a Park Ward Forum

The Park Ward Forum takes place quarterly. Ilyas  as part of his Community Organising role have taken on responsibility in arranging and facilitating the Park Ward Forum meetings at Hanson Lane Enterprise Centre.

Attend a Park Ward Forum to have a say about local issues that are important to you:
