HOT Spotlight on a Cancer Champion

Meet David, another Community Cancer Champion!

David works in Customer First at Calderdale Council, supporting residents with queries about council services. Outside of work, David is also an actor and part of the multimedia production company Feathertree Arts—bringing creativity and passion into everything he does.

What inspired David to become a Cancer Champion?

“I attended a council-run wellbeing event last year that had a presentation about cancer.

I was shocked to learn that 1 in 3 people are likely to develop cancer at some point in their lifetime. I’ve since read that the figure is closer to 1 in 2 as lifespans increase. I thought the figure was a lot lower!”

“I therefore wanted to be part of offering support and spreading awareness given that so many of us are likely to be affected directly and indirectly by cancer.”

Making a difference

David has been actively sharing cancer awareness resources with colleagues and helping to keep conversations going around prevention and support. He has also been engaging with a network of Cancer Champions across the council—building on the work established by a fellow champion colleague—to strengthen awareness and collaboration across the organisation.

Thank you, David, for your commitment to raising awareness and helping build a supportive, informed workplace.
