On Wednesday 10th August we hosted a family fun day at The Outback Community Kitchen & Garden, in partnership with Hopeful Families. With the sun shining and a whole host of activities planned for all the family, the Open Day was a success seeing almost 300 people attending throughout the afternoon.

Organised by our Employment Services Project Co-ordinator, Lisa Connelly, the Hopeful Families Open Day welcomed families from across Calderdale to our very own greenspace and community kitchen, at the Outback. There were a number of activities on the day, which helped families with children of all ages and interests get involved. From skateboarding to gardening, arts and crafts to beekeeping, there was something for everyone:

Arts and Crafts with children and parent

Arts and Crafts

We opened up spaces in the Jubilee Children’s Centre to host arts and crafts workshops for adults and children to enjoy…

Skateboarding

We were joined by Skateboarding experts Skate it Yourself to give our visitors mini masterclasses on the basics of skateboarding.

Let’s Grow

For the budding gardeners and mini horticulturists in attendance, the Let’s Grow gardening Nannies set up their wonderful allotment full of their family of baby fruits and vegetables. They shared the joys of life on the Allotment.

Information Stalls

The event also hosted a number of Information Stalls to support families feeling the strain of the Cost of Living Crisis. From energy saving advice to budgeting guidance, we were joined by a range of local organisations.

Hopeful Families is jointly funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and the European Social Fund.
