Helping Local People Explore Opportunities to Become a Community Warden

We were delighted to welcome more than 20 local people to Hanson Lane Enterprise Centre for the Community Warden recruitment open day, delivered in partnership with Calderdale Council. The event gave attendees the chance to learn more about the Community Warden role, meet members of the Neighbourhood Team, and receive practical support with the application process.

The day was a great opportunity to showcase the importance of Community Wardens and the valuable work they do across Calderdale. From tackling issues such as littering, fly-tipping and dog fouling, to supporting residents, local businesses and community groups, Community Wardens play a vital role in helping neighbourhoods feel safer, cleaner and more welcoming.

Visitors also heard more about what the role involves day to day, including patrols, environmental audits, youth engagement, school route monitoring, and working closely with partner agencies including the Police, Fire and Council teams. The session highlighted the wide range of skills needed for the role, including communication, empathy, confidence, problem-solving, teamwork and a strong community focus.

A big thank you goes to our Lead Employment Advisor, Jo Denny, alongside Calderdale Council’s employment team, for being on hand throughout the day to offer guidance, encouragement and practical help with applications. Support was available on everything from creating an account and completing the online application, to interview preparation, helping attendees feel informed and confident about taking the next step.

It was fantastic to see such strong interest in roles that make a real difference in local communities. Events like this are an important part of helping local people connect with meaningful employment opportunities, while supporting services that improve life across Calderdale. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership to create more pathways into work and help local residents realise their potential.
